down the open wounded bay
piled up many bales of hay
not the sort a horse would chew
but chewed it was by just few

empty stomachs leading on
starving eyes towards the lawn
green, they thought, green, they saw
eat, they ate, they eat it raw
they filled their mouths, their stomachs too
but still the eyes, they craved, these few
the bales long gone, but now they turn
to find new green the eyes now learn
empty the mouths, the stomachs too
now only left are eyes of few
